Frank A. Cania, M.S.Emp.L., AWI-CH, SPHR, SHRM-SCP is president of HR Compliance Experts LLC, a Pittsford, NY-based human resource consulting firm. A business and HR professional for more than 35 years, Frank’s professional passion, and primary focus is helping business owners, managers, and other HR professionals navigate the complex waters of employment-related regulatory compliance.
Frank graduated summa cum laude from the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University, with a master’s degree in Employment Law. In addition, he holds a certificate in workplace investigations (AWI-CH) from the Association of Workplace Investigators, and is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
One of Frank’s proudest professional moments was providing expert witness testimony to the House of Representatives’ Small Business Committee on the burdens that excessive paperwork and reporting requirements place on small businesses.
Frank is a sought-after speaker, frequently presenting on HR and compliance-related topics at regional and national conferences, including the SHRM Employment Law and Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. In addition to the HR Compliance Notebook blog, Frank writes a monthly column for The New York Daily Record, is an occasional contributor to various business publications, and contributed to an HR textbook. Frank was an item writer for the SHRM HR certification exam, worked as a subject matter expert and presenter for several web-based training programs by Skillsoft (an international provider of e-Learning solutions), and has taught college-level classes in employment law.
Frank’s volunteer activities include federal advocacy director for the NYS SHRM council, team captain for the SHRM National Legislative Advocacy Team, member of the SHRM National Labor Relations Panel, instructor for the Association of Workplace Investigators’ Training Institute, and member of the executive compensation and human resource committees of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.
Frank and Becky, his wife of more than 20 years, have two children, Blake and Ellie, and welcomed their first grandchild, Connor, to the family in 2018.
