Frank A. Cania, M.S.Emp.L., SPHR, SHRM-SCP is the president of driven HR, a Pittsford, NY-based human resource consulting firm.   An HR professional for more than 20 years, Frank’s professional passion, and primary focus is on helping business owners, managers, and other HR professionals navigate the complex waters of regulatory compliance, such as state and federal employment regulations, compensation and overtime, disabilities, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, family and medical leave, and terminations.

In 2011 Mr. Cania graduated summa cum laude from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s Degree in Employment Law, and is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).  In 2016, he was selected by SHRM as one of only 49 HR professionals worldwide to participate in a five-day program to develop items for future SHRM Certified Professional and Senior Certified Professional exams.

A frequent speaker on HR-related topics, Frank has presented at a number of conferences and workshops sponsored by companies and professional organizations such as PayScale.com, HR.com, and various chapters affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management. In addition, he has taught college courses in employment law.

Frank is a monthly columnist for The Daily Record, a newspaper focused primarily on the law. He authored An Employer’s Guide to Compliance with New York Correction Law, Article 23-A, and he contributed a business case for an HR textbook, Group Dynamics and Team Interventions: Understanding and Improving Team Performance.  Frank is also a subject matter expert and presenter for Skillsoft, an international provider of e-Learning solutions.

A dedicated husband and proud father of a son and daughter, Frank believes strongly in sharing his time and talents through active volunteer roles, currently serving as the federal advocacy director for the NYS SHRM Council, and as a team captain for the SHRM National Legislative Advocacy Team; and formerly serving as treasurer (2004 – 2007) and president (2008 – 2012) of the Genesee Valley Chapter of SHRM. In addition, Frank is a member of the executive compensation and human resource committees for the YMCA of Greater Rochester, and is involved with various community activities.
